Opening Meditation

Jesus, you stand before me.

I feel it in my heart.

I sense you saying to me:

Peace be with you,

in your pressing days,

amid your fragmentation,

within your loneliness,

with your concern of others,

among those you care for,

around your many questions,

peace, peace be with you,

for I am here, I am with you.

I offer you peace, my peace,

believe in me and my offer.

I will take you far beyond all the fears,

all the worries.

I will sink your spirit in calm,

In quiet, in truth, in me.

rest in me, rest in me,

peace be with you.

2 Peter 1:16-19

Beloved: We did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we had been eyewitnesses of his majesty. For he received honor and glory from God the Father when that unique declaration came to him from the majestic glory, "This is my Son, my beloved, with whom I am well pleased." We ourselves heard this voice come from heaven while we were with him on the holy mountain. Moreover, we possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your heart.

Luke 9:28-36

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up a mountain to pray. While he was praying his face changed in appearance and his clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of his exodus that he was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with him. As they were about to part from him, Peter said to Jesus, "Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, "This is my chosen Son; listen to him." After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

Closing Prayer

A Prayer for Inner Peace and Transformation

Dear God, come with me into this day. Be with me where the dark things are. Take my hand through the valley of shadows; cast out fear and pride from my heart. Allow me to see that great hollow spot in me that has never been transformed into you. Take me to the "lazarus gulf"’ do not spare me from the terror of it. Only, please God, do not let go of me for I will fall into my fear and leave you.

Praise be to you, shining shield of love. Alleluia to you, great God of warmth whose strong hand in my own keeps taking me to places I’d rather not go. My trust is in you, divine companion. O maker of mine, O giver of my life, trudge with me down my path of death into the murky mud of my sin. Stay with me as I see how unlike you I am, and then beautiful gift of goodness, turn my heart around to face you. Allow me to behold the radiance of your astounding, wonderful beauty. Then, my loving God, I will be home.
