The Book of Wisdom
Wisdom and Human Destiny
On seeking God and rejecting evil (Chapter 1:1-8)
Love uprightness you who are rulers on
earth,
be properly disposed towards the Lord and
seek him in simplicity of heart; for he will be found by those who do not
put him to the test, revealing himself to those who do not mistrust him.
Perverse thoughts, however, separate people from God, and power, when put
to the test, confounds the stupid. Wisdom will never enter the soul of a
wrong-doer, nor dwell in a body enslaved to sin; for the holy spirit of
instruction flees deceitfulness, recoils from unintelligent thoughts, is
thwarted by the onset of vice.
Wisdom is a spirit friendly to humanity,
though she will not let a blasphemer’s words go unpunished; since God
observes the very soul and accurately surveys the heart, listening to
every word. For the spirit of the Lord fills the world, and that which
holds everything together knows every word said. No one who speaks what is
wrong will go undetected, nor will avenging Justice pass by such a one.
Good-bye to Summer
Bestower of Fruitfulness,
little pockets of god
sing among the green,
humming the melody
of autumn’s arrival.
the calendar speaks
of no such thing,
but trees rarely lie.
Summer’s vibrant swelling
of sweet fruitfulness
still entices me.
Cool mornings and ripe afternoons
are too delicious for me
to simply say
"good-bye." |
I grieve again summer’s going.
I struggle once more to welcome
the dying inherent in autumn.
I turn to my heart,
where you dwell in harmony.
Together we will prepare
for this never-easy-call
to say farewell to fruitfulness..
Wise Lady of the Season,
you sing a spiraling melody,
urging me onward with your song,
the only words of which I hear
are "let go, let go, let
go." |

Is there a part of your life that is in
"summer" now?
Are you being asked to let go of anything
that has been fruitful and abundant for you?
What part of your "summer" is
most challenging for you to let go?
